Lacaillade claims the “Best Bricklayer” & “Top Craftsman” titles.
Huntington, VT – mason Lacaillade and mason tender Shawn McCuen with Lacaillade Masonry laid 402 bricks in 60-minutes to win the North East regional competition. The Lacaillade-McCuen team worked with detail to put up a no-deduction performance! Their perfect wall earned Lacaillade “North East’s Best Bricklayer” award and the “SPEC MIX’s Top Craftsman” title. The dynamic duo walked away with $2,400, a 4-foot Stabila Level, and two spots to contend at the World Championship bricklaying competition. This team will battle in Las Vegas at the World of Concrete Tradeshow for the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® taking place on January 18th, 2023.
To qualify for the World Championship, hundreds of teams from across North America will battle to win 1 of 22 individual regional series events. They must prove they have what it takes to contend at what is known as the Super Bowl of Masonry. Each team consists of one mason and one mason tender and has 60-minutes to build the tallest 26-foot-long brick wall with the fewest craftsmanship errors possible. From each regional event, one team will win and advance to Las Vegas. At nationals, they will compete for over $125,000 in cash and prizes, such as a new Ford F-250 4×4 Truck, Kubota RTV-X1140, Essick Pro12 mortar mixer, and the title “World’s Best Bricklayer.”
The second-place winner at the North East Regional was mason Ray Byers and mason tender Adam Byers with Byers Masonry. This team laid 391 bricks in 60-minutes winning them $600 and a 2-foot Stabila Level. In third place were mason John Guzy and mason tender Reed Guzy with Knowlton & Sons Masonry. With the conclusion of the competition, this team had laid 279 bricks, winning them $500 and a 2-foot Stabila Level. A fun fact about this team is they are father and son.
During the North East Bricklayer 500 Regional Event, the JR. BL500 competition took place. In this battle, masonry apprentices and students display their ability in a shortened rendition of the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500, where they have the chance to win cash prizes and the “JR. BRICKLAYER 500 CHAMPION” title. Mason Samuel Berryman and his mason tender Dave with Berks Career & Tech Center East won first place. Their wall consisted of 127 bricks, winning them $150, an etched Marshalltown Trowel, and a 4-foot Stabila Level. This duo was a father-and-son team. Second place at the North East battle was mason Steven Seara and mason tender Messiah Marrero with Bullard Havens. This team was close behind the first-place team, laying 104 bricks. They received $100 and a 2-foot Stabila Level. In third place was mason Emanuel Sanabria and mason tender Bryce Breagger with Bullard Havens. This team put down 96 bricks, winning them $50 and a 2-foot Stabila Level.
