Cesar Silva Wins the 2022 Colorado SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500®

Silva takes home 1st place and the title of “Colorado’s Best Bricklayer!”

Sheridan, CO – Cesar Silva puts down 529 bricks in 60 minutes with the help of his mason tender Omar Mayorga with DM Construction to pull the “Colorado’s Best Bricklayer Title!” Obtaining first place and the title is not the only thing the Silva-Mayorga team won, they earned themselves tickets to participate at the greatest event the construction industry offers, the SPEC MIX BRICKELAYER 500®, taking place in Las Vegas at the World of Concrete Tradeshow on January 18th, 2023. Across North America 22 regional events take place, only one team at each of these regionals can advanced to the World Championship in Las Vegas! Each team consists of one mason and one mason tender, together, they must demonstrate that they have the skills to compete in what is known as the Superbowl of Masonry.

Given a 26-foot-wide wall and one hour, these teams must build the tallest brick wall with little to no craftsmanship errors to win the chance to wrangle at the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 in Las Vegas. Battling in Vegas comes with its perks; these teams can win a Ford F-250 truck, a Kubota RTV-X1140, a Essick Pro12 Mortar Mixer, and money, a combined total of over $125,000 in cash and prizes! Contenders will go all in to claim the title of “World’s Best Bricklayer.”

At the regional event in Colorado, Silva won with a 50-brick lead, laying a total of 529 bricks. Silva claimed the top spot and won a cash prize of $500, as well as a 4-foot Stabila Level.

Behind Silva, mason Francisco Rodriguez and mason tender Jaime Garcia with Francisco Masonry laid 479 brick. The Rodriguez-Garcia team achieved 2nd place and the title of “Top Craftsman”, meaning they had the perfect wall! For their efforts, they won a total of $650, and a 2-foot Stabila Level.

Lastly, in third-place mason Alejandro Galindo and Rafael Parra Castro with ASCO Construction had a 359-brick count. For their work, the Galindo-Castro team won $250 and a 2-foot Stabila Level.

Accompanied to the Colorado Regional event is the JR. BL500. This contest is a shortened version of the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500, where students and masonry apprentice’s display their skills for the chance to win cash and prizes! These competitors will battle for the “JR BRICKLAYER 500 CHAMPION” title. The JR. BL500 first-place winner was mason Omar Mayorga and mason tender Juan Cabral with JP Masonry. With a final brick count of 133, this team won $100, an etched Marshalltown trowel, and a 4-foot Stabila Level. In second place was mason Daniel Pino and mason tender Ben Pino with Big Horn Masonry Inc. Close behind in third place was mason Rafael Parra Castro and mason tender Alejandro Galindo with ASCO Construction, who also competed in the Colorado Spec Mix Bricklayer Regional. Both the second and third place winners walked away with $100 and a 2-foot Stabila Level.

Disclosures:
In 2019, the SPEC MIX organization partnered with other masonry associations to create the JR. SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 Competition. In 2022, of the twenty-two Regional Series competitions, twelve will also hold JR. BRICKLAYER 500 contests to give high schoolers and masonry apprentices the chance to compete for their state title. The program has proven remarkably successful and highly supported by the Mason Contractors Association of America, school administrators, and numerous masonry supply manufacturers and dealers.
