2023 QUEBEC CANADA REGIONAL SERIES
Kaven Tremblay wins the Quebec SPEC MIX Bricklayer 500 Regional Competition!
Kaven Tremblay claims the “Quebec’s Best Bricklayer” title.
In Montreal, Quebec, on September 27th, 2023, the largest and most exciting masonry challenge, the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® took place at De La Construction De Montreal. Kaven Tremblay and Gabriel Legault with Maçonnerie Legault took first place at the Quebec SMBL500 Regional event. The Tremblay-Legault team is no strangers to the trade, as they have participated in all the past competitions and have always ranked among the top performers. This team took first place by laying 428 bricks in 60 minutes, winning them $300, a 2-foot Stabila Level, a Marshalltown Tool Bag, and two tickets to Las Vegas to battle at the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 competition. The World Championship event will take place at the World of Concrete Trade Show, in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 24th, 2024.
The 2023 Regional Series includes 23 events throughout the United States and Canada. To qualify for the SMBL500 event in Las Vegas, teams will compete at one of the 23 individual regionals and battle for first place to secure their spot in the national competition. The teams consist of one mason and one tender; working on a 26-foot-wide wall, they have 60 minutes to lay as much brick as possible with the fewest craftsmanship errors. These teams are only allowed to compete once at one regional event throughout the year, and each duo that wins first place will advance to what is known as the “Superbowl of Masonry.” At the World Championship, they will compete to win part of $125,000 in cash in prizes, including a Kubota RTV-X1140, Essick Pro12 mixer, and of course, the title, “World’s Best Bricklayer.”
The Top Craftsman and second place team was mason Daniel Chouinard and tender David Roy Tremblay with Construction M&F. This team laid 382 bricks in 60 minutes and was declared by the judges to have the ‘most-sellable’ wall. With zero deductions, their skills and speed won them a combined total of $350, a 2-foot Stabila Level, and a Marshalltown Tool Bag. In third place was mason Steve Thibault and tender Mathieu Robert with Construction Thibault & Robert. This team was close behind laying 339 bricks in 60 minutes, winning them $100, a Marshalltown Tool Bag, and a Stabila Level. In 2018, and 2019, Steve Thibault won the Quebec Regional Event.
