Surrey, British Columbia Selected for 2020 Regional Series Host Site

Surrey, BC – The search for the next SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 “Supermason” is headed to Surrey, British Columbia on August 28th, 2020. This year’s host, I-XL Building Products, will be the backdrop for another great local competition, and will be the first of many masonry battles to be held across North America in preparation for the World Championship.

Last year, eight teams of masons and tenders lined the arena at the Trowel Trades Training Center in Surrey, BC, ready to prove their mettle. Mason Scott Arthurs and mason tender Josh Shelley of S&S Masonry in Aldergrove, BC took home top honors with a brick count of 527, winning a their first free trip to Las Vegas for the World Championship, a cash prize of $700, a Marshalltown tool bag, Stabila Level and the title, “British Columbia’s Best Bricklayer.” The duo also took home the award, SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN, which goes to the team with the “most sellable” wall. The additional honor netted them an additional $500.

Widely referred to as the “Road to Las Vegas,” the Regional Series is the Masonry Industry’s most notorious event that tests the speed, skill, and stamina of bricklayers by building the best 26-foot-long brick wall in just one hour. The stakes are high as only one mason per regional competition will advance to Las Vegas at the World of Concrete trade show on January 20th, 2021 with a chance to win the title “World’s Best Bricklayer.” The contest’s total purse is worth over $125,000 with the champion taking home the lion’s share which includes a new FORD F250 Super Duty 4×4 truck coupled with $15,000 in cash and prizes.

To add to the event’s excitement, this year SPEC MIX has added the all-new Wild Card Challenge to the Regional Series that will send four additional competitors to the World Championship! At the end of the regional season, the bricklayers who didn’t take first place, but posted one of the year’s top four adjusted brick counts, will win a FREE ride to Vegas.

The SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® was established by SPEC MIX in 2003 to showcase the skill and craftsmanship of professional masons. It is featured as the headliner event of MASONRY MADNESS™ Day during the World of Concrete and recognized as the construction industry’s longest running, most widely recognized competitive campaign with a highest total purse that attracts competitors around the world. The World Championship finale draws as many as 6,000 spectators with thousands of live webcast viewers across the world who tune in to watch this bricklayer battle.
