Jacob Ramirez credits masonry for giving him the life he has now. Being a second-generation mason, Ramirez made the choice of going straight into the workforce, working for his father versus going to college. He considers this to be one of the best decisions of his life because it let him be able to progress with his family while being debt-free and loving his job. Masonry is his passion and he is proud of all that he has accomplished through it.

“An old mason told me once that “No one in this world was born knowing” and he taught me a lot of what I know today. That is why it brings me satisfaction to pass on my knowledge to both the men and women who join our ranks and have a desire to learn and progress,” said Ramirez .

When asked how he likes competing in the SMBL500, Ramirez said, “Make no mistake, the men and women participating in this contest are world class athletes with mad skills. This competition gets my adrenaline pumping and brings out the best in me. At the end of the day though you need to be laser-focused, have a great day with the trowel, have a top-notch tender, and have just a little luck on your side to be named The Worlds Best Bricklayer!”

If Ramirez could share something with the future masons out there, we would say, “If you want to do well for yourself and your family don’t be afraid of a little hard work, of getting a little dirty, and an occasional cut or scrape. Masonry has so much more to offer than a great living. You will build lifelong friendships with so many men and women that come from all walks of life. Your work will be satisfying and something everyone can see for many many years.”
