2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® BRITISH COLUMBIA REGIONAL RESULTS

JOHN KERR WINS THE 2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® BRITISH COLUMBIA REGIONAL COMPETITION

Surrey, BC – The 2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Regional Series has come to a close and mason John Kerr and mason tender Darrin Reed of Global Masonry in Vancouver, BC are heading to Las Vegas to compete in the World Championship next January at the World of Concrete. Trowel Trades Training Center Association in Surrey, British Columbia hosted the regional series event, one of 24 being held across North America. The qualifying national competitors will battle for a chance to win over $125,000 in cash and prizes, including a Ford F250 XLT 4X4 truck and John Deere Gator.

This year’s regional event drew six teams of highly skilled bricklayers. John Kerr with Global Masonry in Vancouver, British Columbia along with his mason tender Darrin Reed were up for the challenge and took home first place with a brick count of 522. For his efforts, Kerr receives $500, a trip to Las Vegas and the title “British Columbia’s Best Bricklayer.” Not only did they take first place, but the duo also won the SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN award, which goes to the mason with the most “sellable wall.” That honor netted Kerr an extra $400.”

2nd place went to mason Scott Arthurs and his mason tender Josh Shelley of S&S Masonry in Langley, BC with a brick count of 484 earning them a prize of $300. Third place went to mason Derek Melo and his mason tender Dave Potter of Melo Masonry, Vancouver, BC who received $200.

The 4th, 5th and 6th place competitors each took home $50 as well. Every competitor took home a Marshalltown bag from Brock White, a trowel and hat from Marshalltown, and a level kit from Stabila.

The smoke from the Canadian wildfires cleared out, and the regional competitors had a gorgeous day to compete. The crowd was energetic, with each stall bringing their own cheering section. Door prizes consisting of hats, bags and cash were handed out to those in attendance.
